Once every month or two, it's my goal (I now speak in Mommy-speak, as in "it's my goal", not "I will definitely") to post a little bit about what Colin is up to. My family (as well as lots of friends out there) have been bombarding me with questions about what he's learning to do. Three months, for all of my little men, has been the magic age--where there is quite a bit that they actually "do", as opposed to just lying there & looking cute!!
So, right now, Colin is starting to bat at things with his little fist. For the most part, he just lays there & wriggles & makes funny faces as he tries to figure out how, but for the past two days, he's actually had some success! Just today, he actually managed to make a coordinated bat at the animals hanging over his little pack 'n play. He loves his playmat and will lie there for up to 40 minutes (yes, he's a dollbaby!) looking at the animals hanging over him. I've started taking his little fist & making him hit them & saying, "Get it, Colin, get it!" I heard that from William the other day & looked over & he was practically yanking Colin's arm out of the socket as he tried to "help" him like Mommy! Yelp!!! We had a big discussion about being gentle, but I'm not sure how much of it actually sunk in.
He's also trying to roll from his back to his tummy. He sees things over to the side & pushes with his little feet & wriggles excitedly & the end result is that he starts to roll to his side. On that same note, he's not pushing up onto extended arms on his tummy anymore b/c he's so excited about trying to reach for things that his arms end up in the air & he just ends up "airplaning", for lack of a better term. He's been doing the social smiles and giggling thing for about 6-7 weeks now & he's SUCH a happy baby that he spends a LOT of time giggling. Ironically, the loudest giggles can be heard just before an "I'm tired" meltdown. He gets kind of slap-happy. In general, he's a super-happy baby. He finally seems to be figuring out the napping thing, so he's been better rested, and I didn't think it was possible for him to get any happier, but he's managed. He loves, loves, loves his big brothers & it doesn't take much from them to get a smile from him. Here are a few pics of William playing with him as well as a quick video:
